Debated American-supported Gaza Humanitarian Foundation Ends Aid Operations
The disputed, United States and Israel-funded Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) says it is terminating its relief activities in the affected area, after almost six months.
The group had earlier paused its several relief locations in Gaza following the halt in hostilities between Palestinian factions and Israel took effect six weeks ago.
The organization attempted to avoid UN systems as the primary provider of relief to Palestinian residents.
UN and other aid agencies refused to co-operate with its methodology, stating it was improper and dangerous.
Hundreds of Palestinians were lost their lives while trying to acquire nourishment amid disorderly situations near the foundation's locations, mostly by Israeli fire, based on UN documentation.
Israel said its soldiers fired alerting fire.
Mission Completion
The GHF said on the beginning of the week that it was terminating work now because of the "effective conclusion of its crisis response", with a cumulative three million shipments containing the corresponding to over 187 million food portions delivered to Palestinians.
The GHF's executive director, the executive director, also said the US-led Civil-Military Coordination Centre (CMCC) - which has been set up to help execute the American administration's Gaza initiative - would be "taking over and developing the approach the organization demonstrated".
"The foundation's approach, in which Palestinian factions were unable to divert and benefit from humanitarian assistance, played a huge role in bringing Palestinian factions to negotiations and establishing a truce."
Reactions and Responses
The militant group - which disputes allegations of misappropriation - welcomed the closure of the humanitarian foundation, according to reports.
A spokesman for stated the organization should be subject to scrutiny for the harm it caused to local residents.
"We urge all global human rights groups to guarantee that responsibility is assigned after leading to casualties and wounds of thousands of Gazans and obscuring the food deprivation strategy practised by the Israel's administration."
Organization Timeline
The organization commenced activities in Gaza on May 26th, a short period subsequent to Israel had partially eased a complete restriction on relief and commercial goods to Gaza that persisted for nearly three months and caused severe shortages of necessary provisions.
After 90 days, a famine was declared in the Palestinian urban center.
The organization's sustenance provision locations in various parts of the Palestinian territory were operated by American private security firms and positioned in areas controlled by Israeli forces.
Relief Agency Issues
International organizations and their affiliates stated the methodology breached the basic relief guidelines of objectivity, fairness and autonomy, and that guiding distressed residents into armed forces regions was inherently unsafe.
International human rights monitoring body reported it tracked the deaths of a minimum of 859 residents attempting to obtain nourishment in the area surrounding organization centers between late May through end of July.
An additional 514 individuals were fatally wounded around the courses followed by international humanitarian deliveries, it further stated.
Most of them were lost their lives due to the Israeli military, according to the office.
Conflicting Accounts
Israeli defense forces said its forces had discharged cautionary rounds at individuals who came near them in a "menacing" manner.
The GHF said there were no firearm incidents at the distribution centers and claimed the international organization of using "untrue and confusing" figures from Gaza's Hamas-run health ministry.
Subsequent Developments
The foundation's prospects had been uncertain since Palestinian factions and Israeli authorities consented a truce agreement to execute the primary segment of the American administration's peace initiative.
It said humanitarian assistance would take place "free from intervention from the two parties through the international bodies and their affiliates, and the humanitarian medical organization, in addition to other global organizations not connected in any way" with Palestinian factions and Israeli authorities.
UN spokesperson the UN spokesman declared this week that the organization's termination would have "no influence" on its work "because we never worked with them".
He also said that while increased relief was entering the region since the truce was implemented on early October, it was "insufficient to address all necessities" of the over two million inhabitants.
