Illegal dumpers bury countryside in mountain of rubbish

The area has been labeled an "ecological disaster".
A reporter surveyed the scene and stated the pile appeared to be "twenty feet in height at least".

Illegal dumpers have dumped a mountain of garbage in a open space in Oxfordshire.

The "ecological disaster occurring in plain sight" is up to 150m (490ft) long and 6m (20ft) high.

The enormous pile has been discovered in a open area next to the River Cherwell near Kidlington.

Elected official highlighted the issue in parliament, saying it was "threatening an environmental emergency".

Protection organization stated the unauthorized garbage pile was created about a recently by an illegal operation.

"This is an ecological disaster unfolding in full view.

"Daily that goes by raises the danger of toxic drainage entering the river system, poisoning animals and endangering the condition of the entire river basin.

"Regulatory bodies must take action now, not in extended periods, which is their typical action timeframe."

Access ban had been implemented by the environmental authorities.

It is difficult to recognize any individual items of garbage as it seems to have been pulverized with soil combined.

Part of the garbage from the uppermost part of the mound has toppled and is now only five metres from the waterway.

The River Cherwell is a tributary of the River Thames, which indicates it runs through Oxford before meeting the Thames.

Parliament representative mentioned the price of clearing the garbage would be significant

The MP asked the administration for help to eliminate the illegal tip before it triggered a fire or was swept into the aquatic system.

Speaking to MPs on this week, he said: "Criminals have dumped a massive amount of unauthorized polymer rubbish... amounting to substantial weight, in my district on a floodplain alongside the River Cherwell.

"Stream volumes are increasing and heatmaps demonstrate that the rubbish is also heating up, elevating the risk of blaze.

"Environmental authorities reported it has restricted funding for regulation, that the projected expense of disposal is greater than the complete yearly budget of the local district council."

Cabinet member commented the authorities had inherited a failing disposal business that had resulted in an "epidemic of unauthorized fly-tipping".

She told representatives the authority had issued a access ban to stop further entry to the location.

In a declaration, the agency said it was looking into the incident and appealed for evidence.

It commented: "We acknowledge the citizens' concern about situations like this, which is why we intervene against those accountable for illegal dumping."

A recently published investigation determined initiatives to combat major environmental offenses have been "severely under-prioritised" despite the issue developing into bigger and more sophisticated.

The Environment and Climate Change Committee proposed an autonomous "thorough" examination into how "prevalent" illegal dumping is tackled.
