Iran Claims Assault on American Facility in the Kingdom of Bahrain, As Part of Regional Retaliatory Strikes.
Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched strikes throughout the Middle East in response for a significant and ongoing attack targeting the nation by the US and Israel.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone in the area of the main base of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The extent of any destruction is uncertain and the United States has not commented.
Missile Defenses Activated
Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - which all house American military installations - reported they have shot down missiles in their air space.
In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence announced it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.
IRGC Statement
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the attack on Iran carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.
That US-Israeli operation - initiated at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on areas linked to the the regime, with US President Donald Trump encouraging the Iranian people to revolt against the leadership.
Additional Developments
In the State of Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israeli military said it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The Ministry of Defence of the UAE said in a statement that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses responded to the projectiles with high efficiency and destroyed a series of missiles," the statement continued.
Officials reported wreckage fell on a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some material damage and killing a civilian.
The US Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
