Line of Duty Confirmed for 7th Season on the British Broadcaster
The acclaimed police drama AC-12 will make a comeback for its 7th season, confirmed by the BBC.
A brand new six-part season written by the show's creator will begin filming in Belfast in the coming months, according to the network.
The actress expressed excitement about the comeback, stating she was "so excited" about the series' return. Her co-star remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together next year."
The last season wrapped up in recent years with a finale that attracted over 17 million viewers. Speculation about a new season have been circulating ever since, but official word only arrived recently.
Fresh Obstacles for AC-12
Series seven will open with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to the announcement.
Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings remain tasked to tackle misconduct within the law enforcement.
Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, the trio are assigned their "most sensitive case so far."
New Character and Intricate Plot
An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer known for busts of organized crime, faces allegations of abusing his position to become a sexual predator.
Yet, his case could be a deliberate distraction from a larger danger still active in the background, the teaser hinted.
In a statement, Jed Mercurio commented: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the show's fans."
"It's an honor to have had countless fans track the ups and downs of the unit over six previous seasons and we are thrilled to be returning for a seventh season."
He added: "Misconduct in this country is supposed to have ended while Line of Duty was not airing, so I've been compelled to use my imagination."
Actor Responses
The Scottish actor described appearing in the police drama as "a job of a lifetime".
"Beyond the program's popularity but the colleagues I've worked with I now call dear friends."
"I'm excited to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he said.
Vicky McClure remarked: "It goes without saying I'm so excited the show is returning! Eager to work with Jed, Compston and Adrian again. The city, we'll see you soon!"
Adrian Dunbar noted: "As we count down the AC-12 days of Christmas, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together next year."
"Pleased with the news and looking forward to those unexpected twists and turns."
Show History
The drama premiered in the early 2010s and evolved into one of the most popular television series of the last decade, featuring guest stars such as Lennie James.
Broadcasters has not yet announced when the upcoming series will hit screens.
The conclusion of season six drew the extended plot about the hunt for criminal mastermind known as "H" to a close, and producers said at the time there were no plans for additional seasons.
Nevertheless, the network announced on this week that a new season is now in development.
