Pizza Market Saturation? Domino's Leader Steps Down Following Pivot Towards Chicken.

A head of Domino's Pizza Group who indicated the United Kingdom might have reached pizza saturation while broadening the company into fried chicken has been removed after conflicts with its directors.

Leadership Change

Rennie is exiting after a brief tenure in the top role, and will be succeeded on an interim basis by the company's operations head, Frampton, while the pizza giant searches for a long-term chief.

Rennie, who worked for the company for more than two decades, had attempted to redirect Britain's biggest pizza delivery company towards chicken offerings, remarking recently there was not “huge potential” left in the British pizza industry. He observed poultry was the fastest-growing food category in the international market.

Governance Tensions

It is understood that there was disagreement between Rennie and the board over his approach and direction, although Domino's announcement said he was stepping down “as a joint decision”.

New Product Launch

In the autumn, the chain unveiled its Chick 'N' Dip offering – which Rennie described as a “significant new phase” for the group – and is trialling it in select stores in the north-west of England and the province.

While the company is still intending to launch it across its extensive network in 2026 as planned, it views fried chicken as complementary to its primary pizza operations.

Leadership Statement

Bull, the company chairman, said: “The board believes that there are a series of prospects to boost expansion and profitability in the main pizza segment. We are focused on identifying the suitable leader to direct the systematic rollout of that expansion plan.”

Market Difficulties

Recently, the pizza delivery giant, which has a substantial customer base in the UK and Ireland, said orders declined by 1.5 percent in the third quarter. In August, it warned that the food delivery sector had “become tougher” as it attributed economic uncertainty in the lead-up to the government announcement and higher payroll outlays for disappointing revenue and a 15 percent decline in six-month income.

Other pizza operators are also struggling. Pizza Hut disclosed the shutting of dozens of outlets a last month, after the firm behind its UK venues faced financial collapse.

Wellness Efforts

Responding to market shifts towards healthier eating, Domino's has launched lower-calorie items, such as its thin-crust line of bakes below 400 kcal as well as meat-free and allergy-friendly pizzas. A big pepperoni bake has 2,311 kcals. A family cheese pizza has over 2,100, while a personal has 909 calories.

Interim Leadership

Nicola Frampton has been with Domino's since the recent past, and had a background at the gaming group a well-known operator. It is believed that she is not seeking to occupy the CEO position on a full-time basis.

Frampton stated: “Our team has a number of current growth and performance initiatives that we will be concentrating on implementing at a rapid rate.”

Frampton noted these comprised additional efforts on the organization's supply chain and product development, and its loyalty scheme.

The pizza chain is also lacking a long-term finance director until March 16, when Andrea starts from the Irish cider and beer maker C&C Group. In the meantime, Snow is interim finance chief.
