Ten individuals convicted of digital abuse against Brigitte Macron

A Paris court has convicted ten people for carrying out the digital intimidation of Brigitte Macron, the partner of France's leader, Emmanuel Macron.
The defendants faced allegations of circulating false claims regarding her gender identity and sexual orientation, in addition to posting hurtful comments about the pair's 24-year age gap.
The court issued suspended prison sentences of as much as eight months to the perpetrators. The detailed judgment has yet to be released.
A persistent false narrative suggesting that Brigitte Macron is a trans woman has spread widely since her husband's initial election in 2017.
This Monday's court decision in France comes as the Macrons initiating a libel case in the US against political commentator Candace Owens, who has also voiced analogous false narratives about the Brigitte Macron's identity.
Their legal filing alleges that Owens ignored substantial counter-evidence that refuted her assertions in favour of give a platform to established defamers.
Owens has often echoed these assertions on her show and social media channels, and in March 2024 declared that she would risk all her credibility on her belief that Mrs. Macron was born a man.
Brigitte Macron initially encountered her now-husband when she was a teacher at his lycée.
The two entered into matrimony in 2007, when the future French president was 29 and she was 54.
