Exactly 30 years after the original Toy Story movie was released, establishing the animation giant as a leading film company and bringing audiences to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a glimpse into the plot but leaving viewers wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys

The preview shows Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a latest toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a fair and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.

Certainly, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the insignia pinned to her shirt.

Hopefully she is still the driving force among the group.
