Bolsonaro has been detained after authorities determined he posed a definite escape threat while under domestic detention.

The one-time leader was found guilty of plotting a armed takeover in the ninth month and sentenced more than 27 years in jail, but he remained under confinement pending appeals.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice the presiding justice said the move to detain the 70-year-old politician was a preventative measure after recent developments were revealed.

This encompassed trying to remove his ankle monitor and a summons to a supporters' gathering that could "allow for a potential flight.

In a document approving the arrest, the magistrate said data from the centre monitoring his home detention suggested the one-time head of state's "intention to break the surveillance device to ensure success in his getaway".

Context of Sentencing
